Abstract

Introduction: The World Health Organization (WHO) states that one in three people is diagnosed with hypertension. Mean systolic and diastolic blood pressure increases with age. In Indonesia, the age group with the highest hypertension is the elderly.Occupation is a risk factor for hypertension among the elderly. Research Objective: To determine the relationship between age and occupation with the incidence of hypertension in Sungaibuntu. Research Method: Quantitative analytical research with cross-sectional design. Data collection used questionnaires and blood pressure measurements on respondents. Data analysis used the Spearman's rho test to test the hypothesis of age and systolic blood pressure, while age and diastole used the correlation test. The Mann Whitney test was used for analysis of the relationship between work and systole, and the independent T test for work and diastole. Research Results: There was a significant relationship between age and systolic blood pressure (p=0.0001) and age and diastolic blood pressure (p=0.018). Meanwhile, for the occupational variable, there was no relationship between employment and systolic blood pressure (p=0.335), and employment and diastolic blood pressure (p=0.223). Conclusion: There is a positive correlation between age and systolic blood pressure and diastolic blood pressure. Meanwhile, work was not related to the incidence of hypertension in respondents in Sungaibuntu Village.
